PASSIVE Social Media App UI UX Design
PASSIVE social media app UI UX design project featuring short videos, competitions, chat, and a modern interface built to discover new Kollywood talents.
Overview
This PASSIVE social media app UI UX design project (originally named Vayy Up) was built for a Tamil Nadu based production company that wanted a platform similar to TikTok, but focused on discovering new talent for the Kollywood film industry. The app lets users create short videos, compete in challenges, chat with friends, follow creators, and participate in events.
Project Overview
The client needed an engaging and modern mobile application that would bridge entertainment, talent discovery, and fan-based interaction. Their goal was to build a place where users could showcase their acting, dancing, or creative skills and where the production team could identify rising talent for their movies.
My focus for the PASSIVE social media app UI UX design was to create a youthful, energetic experience without compromising clarity and usability.
Goals
Create a fun and immersive short-video platform
Allow users to participate in competitions and events
Provide a smooth video creation and posting flow
Enable chat, groups, and messaging
Add a clean profile system
Improve discoverability through curated categories
Ensure the UI feels modern, polished, and easy to browse
Research Insights
1. Users wanted fresh UI
Most competitors had cluttered layouts. Users wanted something clean but expressive.
2. Posting videos should feel effortless
Current local apps made posting confusing with many extra steps.
3. Poor buffering was a major frustration
Users quit when videos loaded slowly.
4. Content categories felt unorganized
Users struggled to find competitions or trending posts.

Commonly asked questions and answers Phone:+1 (555) 000-0000 Email:hi@arunarudra.com What services do you offer? I design and build digital experiences end-to-end.My core services include UI/UX design, product design, website design, branding, and complete development support when required. Whether it’s a mobile app, web platform, or a full product from scratch, I handle everything from research to final execution. How do you approach a new project? I start with understanding the problem not jumping to screens. Research, user flows, and structure come first. Once the foundation is solid, I move into UI design, prototyping, and handoff. If development is included, I ensure the final build matches the design exactly. What tools do you use for your design work? I primarily work in Figma for UI/UX and prototypes, and Illustrator for branding and visual assets. Depending on the project, I also use tools like Photoshop, After Effects, or development platforms through my team. Can you handle both design and development? Yes. If a project requires it, I collaborate with my development team to deliver a complete solution design + development. This ensures the final output stays consistent with the design vision and avoids the usual designer–developer mismatch. How long does a typical project take? It depends on the complexity.A simple website takes around 2–3 weeks.A full product (app + website + dashboard) can take 6–10 weeks. Before starting, I always give a clear timeline based on scope so there are no surprises.
