Silver Club — Designing a social space for people aged 45+

Silver Club app design case study showcasing a social platform for users aged 45+, with simple onboarding, clear navigation, and an accessible UI.

Overview

Silver Club started as a simple question: What would a social platform look like if it were designed for older adults first not as an afterthought?

People aged 45+ often feel pushed aside by today’s fast, noisy social apps. Silver Club was my attempt to design an experience that feels familiar, friendly, and genuinely supportive for this audience.

This was a self-initiated, hypothetical project, but I treated it with the same seriousness and depth as a real product.

The Problem

Most mainstream platforms assume users are tech savvy, fast, and comfortable switching between complex interactions. Older users aren’t “slow”; they’re simply not the target audience for these systems.

Through observation and research, a few patterns kept repeating:

  • Small actions get missed because tap targets are tiny.

  • Onboarding feels overwhelming.

  • Content is cluttered and fast-paced.

  • Ticket booking, payments, and discovery flows are confusing.

  • Video calls and messaging require too many steps.

Silver Club needed to offer a digital space that felt calm, readable, predictable, and safe.

My role

I led the UX and UI work across mobile and web: user research, interaction design, high-fidelity UI, prototyping, and visual identity work for the marketing site. I designed and tested flows specifically for older users

Problem space

  • Video calls and messaging require too many steps.

Silver Club needed to offer a digital space that felt calm, readable, predictable, and safe.

What I did (process highlights)

Research that mattered: Conducted interviews and task testing with users aged 45–70 to learn common pain points: discoverability, readability, and trust signals.

Simplified information architecture: Reduced cognitive load by limiting primary actions to the essential: Home, People/Groups, Events, Messages, and Profile. Each screen focuses on one clear action.

Onboarding for confidence: Built a step-by-step onboarding flow with optional help tips and an easy way to invite a trusted contact during sign-up.

Prototyping and testing: High-fidelity prototypes in Figma validated flows on iOS and Android before finalizing visuals. Iterations came from real user feedback, not assumptions.

Marketing site: Designed a focused website to explain the app, answer questions about privacy and ease-of-use, and drive downloads with clear CTAs.

Key Features Designed

1. Frictionless Onboarding

No passwords, no complicated steps.Just a mobile number → OTP → basic profile → interests.Clear language, large buttons, and a linear flow keep things simple.

2. Personalized Home Feed

  • A clean, scrollable feed with:

  • Clear action buttons (like/comment/share)Everything is visually calm and easy on the eyes.

  • Stories

  • Wellness content

  • Lifestyle posts

3. Search Hub

Instead of dumping everything into one search box, I created category shortcuts:

  • News

  • Music

  • Travel

  • Events

  • Videos

This helps people jump straight to what they care about.

4. Complete Events & Ticket Booking Flow

This became a major part of the product:

  • Discover events

  • View details

  • Choose time slot

  • Select tickets

  • Pay using popular payment methods

  • Get a QR ticketThis takes a typically confusing journey and makes it linear and digestible.

5. Music Player

A lightweight player with:

  • Play/pause

  • Artist pages

  • Lyrics modeOlder users love familiar audio—this feature brings nostalgia and comfort.

6. News Reader

Readable, scroll-friendly article pages with a focus on clarity, not heavy formatting.

Core Capabilities

Outcome

Silver Club demonstrates how much better digital products can feel when we actually design for the people who will use them.

Even though this is a hypothetical concept, the structure, flows, and interactions are ready for development. More importantly, it shows that older adults deserve thoughtful digital spaces—not simplified versions of products built for someone else.

Tools Used

Commonly asked questions and answers Phone:+1 (555) 000-0000 Email:hi@arunarudra.com What services do you offer? I design and build digital experiences end-to-end.My core services include UI/UX design, product design, website design, branding, and complete development support when required. Whether it’s a mobile app, web platform, or a full product from scratch, I handle everything from research to final execution. How do you approach a new project? I start with understanding the problem  not jumping to screens. Research, user flows, and structure come first. Once the foundation is solid, I move into UI design, prototyping, and handoff. If development is included, I ensure the final build matches the design exactly. What tools do you use for your design work? I primarily work in Figma for UI/UX and prototypes, and  Illustrator for branding and visual assets. Depending on the project, I also use tools like Photoshop, After Effects, or development platforms through my team. Can you handle both design and development? Yes. If a project requires it, I collaborate with my development team to deliver a complete solution design + development. This ensures the final output stays consistent with the design vision and avoids the usual designer–developer mismatch. How long does a typical project take? It depends on the complexity.A simple website takes around 2–3 weeks.A full product (app + website + dashboard) can take 6–10 weeks. Before starting, I always give a clear timeline based on scope so there are no surprises.
